Step Right Up!

Welcome to my blog: "Under the Big Top: Life in a 21st Century Teaching Hospital."

I'm a doctor at a big city hospital. I see patients. I teach residents and interns. Medical students, too.

I've worked in a lot of teaching hospitals. There's one thing consistent amongst them: lots of moving parts. With so much going on, they remind me of the circus. Multiple rings. Lots of attractions. Funny stuff. Scary stuff. Dangerous stuff. Tricks. Death-defying feats. Gross stuff.

Under the Big Top is aimed at non-medical readers. I want to show you how a doctor thinks; how a doctor works; how we spend our days. A look behind the scenes.

If you are a medical professional, I'm glad to have you as a reader, too. Perhaps you'll even find fodder for teaching to your residents and students.
